Description: The class discussion will include the basic parts of a book and how to care and
repair them with a simple list of resources and tools easily acquired on a minimal budget. A few
examples of repair will be demonstrated. Participants are asked to bring a book they want to repair and
the instructor/students will see what can be done with it.

Title: Management Series: Essential Management Skills Part 3: Performance Appraisals

Description: The performance appraisal can be stressful for both the supervisor and the employee.
However, these periodic reviews need not be seen as "necessary evils" but as a tool toward greater productivity and
employee retention. This tool can become an important component in the supervisor’s arsenal to retain employees
and create a productive workforce, while helping the organization to achieve success. This program will focus on
the development of skill sets to help supervisors conduct successful performance appraisals of their staff.
In this course, students will learn:
* How to perform "mini-reviews" to better prepare for the annual process
* Ways to incorporate praise and positive feedback into the review process
* Ways to create feelings of trust among employees and the supervisor
* How to deliver criticism effectively
* Ways to increase employee interest in the review process
* How to use candor as a way to find solutions to identified problems

Title: Disaster Recovery

Description: Learn what can be done immediately following a disaster - the things that can be
done by staff and volunteers who are not experts is disaster recovery, and the things that should be
done immediately. Learn how to deal with fire/water damaged materials of all kinds. People planning on
attending this class should wear comfortable clothes, and be sure they are clothes they don’t mind
getting dirty. Students will get hands-on experience in "first-aid" treatment of damaged materials.

bought new computers that came with Microsoft Office 2007. There are many people who are new to
Microsoft Office entirely and would like a "soft" introduction. The Northern New York Library
Network’s new class, "Office 2003 to Office 2007: Transition" will help with whatever the case may be.
