North Country Library System (NCLS) seeks a PCC Technician to set-up and maintain computer equipment in four (4) library-based public computing centers. These centers will offer vocational and workplace readiness training to under-served and under-educated rural community residents through state-of-the-art technology. This is a grant-funded temporary position that will not exceed two (2) years.

~ Insure that existing computer system and applications software are operating correctly and efficiently; maintain and repair hardware and peripherals as necessary
~ Assure updates are completed as required
~ Maintain an inventory of repair parts as appropriate
~ Work with center team to insure efficient operation of PCC by establishing procedures and controls
~ Provide training and technical assistance to team working with computers and peripheral equipment
~ Maintain local area network and insure function of wireless network
~ Install accessibility modifications as necessary
~ Adjust programs to fulfill instructional and student needs
~ Keep accurate and comprehensive records
~ Travel to other PCC sites and provide technical assistance
~ Communicates and coordinates with IT Manager
Qualifications - Candidates should have good knowledge of the use, operation and repair of computers, related peripheral equipment and local area networks; working knowledge of computer applications; ability to maintain inventory and maintenance records; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to complete work as scheduled in a timely manner; capable of working and coordinating with outside consultants/vendors; and a willingness to work a non- standard work schedule. In addition to these characteristics, candidates should also have:
~ Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either:
~ Completion of a computer technology program from a regionally accredited two year college; or
~ Two years of recent experience as a computer technician
Work Schedule - Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 8:00 am-4:30 pm (May require occasional evening and weekend hours). Compensation - Salary: $31,642. Benefits: Health insurance, 12 paid holidays, 12 paid sick days, 10 annual leave days per year and mandatory membership in the NY State Retirement System.

North Country Library System (NCLS) seeks a PCC Coordinator to manage the development and operation of a library- based public computing center. This center will offer vocational and workplace readiness training to under-served and under-educated rural community residents through state-of-the-art technology. Summary of Essential Job Functions -
~ Oversees the creation and implementation of training programs for targeted vulnerable populations. Areas of instruction that these programs will offer include (but not limited to): English as a second language, basic computer use, basic software packages, effective use of the internet to perform critical online functions such as email, online job applications, e-government services; use of online and print training and employment resources. This is a grant-funded temporary position that will not exceed two (2) years. Summary of essential job functions
~ Provides training and assistance to PCC Instructors (at other PCC sites) library staff and volunteers.
~ Provides individual attention and assistance as needed to meet the needs and abilities of patrons.
~ Coordinates the scheduling of the PCC.
~ Promotes the PCC through preparation of publicity, presence at meetings, and public speaking.
~ Maintains detailed program records.
~ Develops an outreach plan.
~ Develops local evaluation plan.
~ Prepares materials for the grant website as appropriate.
~ Coordinates and communicates with PCC Technician, grant manager and grant elevators as necessary.
~ Ensures that all grant requirements are met.
Qualifications - Candidates should have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; good knowledge of the theory, principles and techniques of teaching; good knowledge of the principles of curriculum development and the evaluation of training materials; ability to apply teaching approaches to meet specific teaching situations; the ability to plan and implement course outlines and lesson plans; experience in the use of technology and information resources, tact, courtesy and integrity; initiative and resourcefulness.
In addition to these characteristics, candidates should also have:
~ Bachelors degree in Education or related field and experience with technology and information resources, or
~ MLS in Library Science/Information Technology with expertise in training the public, or
~ An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Assistant Librarian for Digital Technologies and Learning - The Southworth Library at SUNY Canton seeks a proactive, creative, service-oriented librarian with the skills to investigate and implement innovative technologies and services as well as participate in reference, collection development and library instruction.
Description - Assist in creating and supporting a feature-rich, user-friendly information technology environment for a diverse population of library users. Collaborate with other library staff and appropriate campus areas to enhance the library’s online presence in both the traditional and online class environments. Recruit, train and manage circulation desk student workers. Provide reference and instruction in both actual and virtual environments. Oversee collection maintenance and reserves. Assist other library staff with various projects.
The Position - This is a ten-month position reporting to the Interim VP for Student Affairs/Dean of Academic Services. In addition to offering a variety of courses and degrees in the traditional classroom setting, SUNY Canton has an extensive online learning program which includes seven fully online degrees and 150 online courses per semester. Library staff are involved in providing support for those courses and degrees as well as the more traditional ones. Southworth Library has undergone an extensive renovation and is student-centered with active social spaces for collaboration and learning.
Qualifications - Required: MLS from an ALA accredited institution, experience providing services to library users and with web development languages, Web 2.0 applications and other emerging technologies. The successful applicant will possess a demonstrated ability to function in an evolving organization and have excellent customer service skills.
Preferred: Experience providing reference and library instruction services and familiarity with circulation and reserves management systems.

The Building Manager/Supervisor will work Sunday-Thursday evenings when classes are in session.

Visiting Assistant Librarian - Feinberg Library at the State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh seeks a full-time, one- year temporary librarian for a target start date of 7/01/10. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, reference service, unit participation, and the development of a proposal for a comprehensive institutional repository program.
Responsibilities - Developing a proposal for a comprehensive institutional repository program; this proposal will include a study of other programs at comparable institutions, a review of software options (including SUNY D-Space), a cost projection, and developing a proposal for consideration and possible implementation.
~ Teaching two (2) sections of a one-credit course (LIB105) in information & technology literacy in both fall and spring semesters (for LIB105 details, go online).
~ Teaching course-related instruction sessions as assigned.
~ Providing proactive reference service to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in person at the library reference desk, over the telephone, via email, and interactive chat (some evenings and weekends are required).
~ Participating in Information Outreach Unit activities which focus on promoting library resources and services to faculty and students.
Required Qualifications - Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent and teaching experience. Availability for some evening and weekend work also required. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in instructional and information technologies; the ability to communicate effectively; evidence of independent and proactive work; experience working in an academic library; reference service experience; familiarity with institutional repository programs.
